The PS-31 Binocular Night Vision (EASON) is a compact, lightweight dual-tube goggle that replaces the traditional PS-15. Among the many dual-tube night vision goggles, the PS-31 is by far one of the smallest and lightest units. The PS31s can be equipped with various grades of high performance Gen 3+ image intensifier tubes made in the USA. Working directly with US operator input, the PS-31 is designed to increase system resolution, significantly reduce head weight, improve the center of gravity system, provide additional operational utility, and increase the operator's overall situational awareness with a 50-degree increase in FOV for maximum field visibility. These tubes have an automatic gain function that allows the system to adjust the brightness of the image according to ground conditions. The ET-PS31 has independently rotating tube housings that allow the operator to run the goggles in binocular or monocular configurations. Using both tubes at the same time allows the eyes to develop depth perception and increases the ease of maneuvering terrain and obstacles and operating equipment such as control panels and door handles. However, the monocular configuration allows for easy transition between the various lighting conditions often found on the battlefield and causes the operator to switch between night vision and weapon mounted optics. Another benefit of the swivel tube shell is the ability to mount a "flat" visor on the front helmet surface when stowed. The ability to rotate the tube shell onto the helmet face creates an overall lower profile, improving operator safety and equipment longevity.
